Main field of study with advanced study
Entry requirements
Admission to the course requires at least 52.5 credits in human geography, geography, or environmental science.
Content
Within the framework of the course, an internship is planned, carried out and reported on at a workplace related to the work area of sustainable urban planning. The course gives the student the opportunity to actively work with urban planning issues within activities such as authorities, organizations and companies in Sweden or abroad. It is important that the internship relates to the student's field of study. The department is not obliged to provide internships. The student must apply for an internship themselves. This must be approved by the course coordinator before the start of the internship period. The practical work is carried out over 13-20 weeks. During the internship, the student makes workbook notes which are edited and reported in a self-reflection report. During the course, a scientific report is also prepared in which problems related to the internship are analyzed based on relevant scientific literature and course literature from previous courses.
Objectives
After passing the course, the student should be able to:
Knowledge and understanding
1. In-depth and complementary knowledge within the field of sustainable urban planning
Skills and abilities
2. Experience of professional activities within the field of sustainable urban planning
3. Ability to independently plan and carry out an internship
4. Ability to compile, analyze and present information
Judgment skills and approach
5. Ability to identify one's own need for additional knowledge and to develop one's competence in relation to professional life
The course is sustainability-related, which means that at least one of the course's learning objectives clearly shows that the course content meets at least one of the University of Gothenburg's established criteria for sustainability labelling.
Sustainability labelling
Form of teaching
The student participates in the various tasks of the workplace to at least 80% for 13-20 weeks. Before the start of the internship, the student, in consultation with the internship supervisor, must have submitted an internship application in which the main internship task is formulated. Supervision takes place partly at the internship according to an agreement with the supervisor specified in the internship application and partly through a number of scheduled joint supervision sessions. These sessions are not mandatory but are a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences from the internship with their fellow students.
Examination formats
To pass the course, 13-20 weeks of practical work at the internship with at least 80% attendance are required, an internship certificate from the supervisor/work supervisor at the internship, participation in a mandatory seminar and a written internship report approved by the course manager. The internship report consists of two parts, a reflection part and a scientific analysis. The internship certificate is issued by the supervisor at the workplace and must contain information about attendance, actual work tasks performed and an assessment. The internship part is given one of the grades Pass (G) and Fail (U). A student who fails the scientific and/or self-reflection report but has passed attendance at the internship can submit a revised report for a new assessment.
If the student has received a recommendation from the University of Gothenburg for special pedagogical support, the examiner can, if it is compatible with the course objectives and provided that unreasonable resources are not required, decide to give the student an adapted examination or alternative examination form. If a student who has failed the same examination twice wishes to change examiners for the next examination, such a request must be submitted in writing to the department and approved unless there are special reasons to the contrary (HF Chapter 6 Section 22).
In the event that a course has been discontinued or undergone major changes, the student shall be guaranteed at least three examination opportunities (including regular examination opportunities) for a period of at least one year, but no longer than two years after the course has been discontinued/changed. The same applies to internships and VFU, but with a limitation to only one additional examination opportunity.
Grades
The course is graded as Excellent (A), Very Good (B), Good (C), Satisfactory (D), Adequate (E) and Fail (F). To obtain a passing grade (A-E) on the course, attendance at compulsory elements and a passing result on all exam elements are required. The grade for the course as a whole is weighted by the results of the exam elements and is set in relation to the established grading scale.
Course evaluation
Course evaluation is carried out at the end of the course. The results and any changes in the course structure should be communicated both to the students who carried out the evaluation and to the students who will begin the course.
Other regulations
The student is responsible for arranging an internship.
The course may not be included in the degree together with the course KGG230
