Doctoral Student
Care in Long-term ConditionsAbout Malin Bengtsson
Malin Bengtsson is a PhD student at the Department of Nursing and Health Sciences. She is a registered specialist nurse in palliative care and has a background as a care developer at the Palliative Care Centre, Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg. Malin combines her doctoral studies with her work as a care developer, where she focuses on improving care for patients with serious illnesses.
Her research areas include early integrated palliative care, with a particular focus on how healthcare professionals can initiate and conduct person-centred conversations about life in the context of serious illness. The project aims to develop a practical model for these conversations, based on the experiences of patients and healthcare professionals. Malin’s research also includes the development and testing of AI-based conversation tools to support healthcare professionals in complex care situations.
Through her research, Malin strives to break down taboos surrounding palliative care and create tools that promote early, respectful and supportive communication between healthcare professionals, patients and their caregivers.
