PIL Pedagogical Development & InteractiveAbout Janna Meyer-Beining
I have been employed as pedagogical developer at PIL since 2019. In that capacity, I have been responsible for various HPE101 courses (Teaching and Learning in Higher Education 1), worked as a teacher in HPE303 (Assessment and Evaluation), and as supervisor in both English and Swedish versions of HPE103 (Teaching and Learning in Higher Education 3: Applied Analysis). I am also part of the unit’s editorial board.
Background
With a background in language teaching, I have spent a number of years teaching German as academic language at universities in Germany and Great Britain. Learning and teaching in higher education is a longstanding interest of mine, both as a research interest as well as with relation to my own pedagogical practice. My main research interest is in academic writing, with a specific focus on responding to and assessing student writing in higher education. In 2019, I defended my thesis, ”Assessing writers, assessing writing: A dialogical study of grade delivery in Swedish higher education”, at the Department for Education, Communication, and Learning at Gothenburg University. In this work, I studied a specific examination activity – the “betygssamtal” – from a dialogical perspective, with a specific focus on the ways in which this activity was co-constructed by its participants.
