About Marcus Kristensen

I am a doctoral student in Information Technology and Learning at the Department of Applied IT, affiliated with the graduate schools CUL (Centre for Educational Science and Teacher Research) and GRADE.

Research interests: My research is grounded in educationally oriented Science and Technology Studies (STS), where I investigate how the digitalisation of schools – in particular platformisation – reshapes the teaching profession. I am interested in the interplay between technology, policy, and profession, and I analyse how different institutional logics influence teachers’ scope of action, agency, and pedagogical autonomy. I am particularly focused on how digital platforms not only serve as tools but also organise and structure teaching, thereby shaping experiences of professionalism and authenticity in teachers’ work. Through my research, I aim to contribute to a deeper understanding of the tensions and opportunities that digitalisation brings to the professionalisation of teaching in a rapidly changing school context.

Background: With a background as a primary school teacher, I bring practical classroom experience into my academic work, providing valuable insights into the complexities of education. I hold a Bachelor’s degree (B.A., 2012) and a Master’s degree (M.Ed., 2023) from the University of Gothenburg.

Supervisors: My main supervisor is Annika Bergviken Rensfeldt, and my co-supervisor is Mikaela Åberg.
