What exactly does the term dystopia mean and why do these bleak futures, often defined by oppression, control, and despair, captivate us so deeply? From Orwell's 1984 to The Hunger Games and Black Mirror, dystopian narratives reflect our fears, challenge our beliefs, and offer powerful commentary on contemporary society. Join us as we look through the veil of imagined dystopias and their enduring relevance in today's world.
Joe Trotta, a linguist at the University of Gothenburg is especially interested in Popular Culture and the use of English in popular media such as film, TV, the internet, music, magazines, tabloids, ads, online games, etc.
