Since 5 November 2018 the University of Gothenburg only issues digital degree certificates. The student receives the digital degree certificate by e-mail and is then able to forward the certificate to for example employers and other higher education institutions. The recipient of the forwarded e-mail containing the certificate is able to confirm the authenticity of the certificate by verifying it online.
Each digital degree certificate is signed by a degree officer at the University of Gothenburg. The digital signature on the certificate confirms that it is a genuine document. In order to see the digital signature, the certificate must be downloaded and opened as a pdf.
Verification of digital degree certificate
In order to verify a digital degree certificate it must first be downloaded as a pdf. The degree certificate contains a link that leads to the University's verification partner ProSale Signing, where the certificate can be verified. ProSale Signing follows the normative specification for e-signing services set by the e-identification board.
Verify digital degree certificate through ProSale Signing
To verify the certificate on the ProSale Signing page, do the following:
- Click the Browse button under the headline Verify using ProSale Signing.
- In the pop-up window, find and choose the downloaded certificate and then click Open.
- Back on the ProSale Signing page, click Verify.
An approved verification means that the digital signature on the certificate is correct and that the certificate has not been tampered with since it was signed by the degree officer at the University of Gothenburg.
