The course is mandatory in the International Master's Programme in Information Technology (IT) and Learning. The course can also be given as a freestanding course.
The course can be part of the following programme: 1) International Master's Programme in Information Technology and Learning (S2ITL)

Entry requirements
To be eligible for the course the student must possess a Bachelor'sdegree with a minimum of 180 higher education credits or an equivalent degree.
Furthermore, the student must demonstrate proficiency in English equivalent to English B (Swedish upper secondary level) or English 6 (equivalent) with at least a pass, or a valid test of English as a foreign language TOEFL (232 computer based), 575 (paper based) or IELTS with a minimum score of 6.0 in all scores, alternatively a Bachelor'sdegree from an education offered in English.
Content
The course introduces IT and Learning as an international field of research and practice by presenting key themes and categorizations of knowledge in the domain. It focuses on conceptual and critical approaches to the knowledge domain while including activities that address emerging technologies and contemporary debates in the field. An important feature of the course is the emphasis on peer learning activities and the academic writing processes.

Objectives
On successful completion of the course the student will be able to:
Knowledge and understanding
- account for and compare central perspectives on learning
- discuss the relationship betweenrelate central perspectives on learning and applied design to research and practice in the field of IT and Learning
Competence and skills
- assemble a selection of research literature in the field of IT and Learning for a defined question or topic
- present arguments based on the research literature in the form of an academic paper
Judgement and approach
- critically analyze and discuss recent research in relation to central perspectives on learning within the field of IT and Learning
- reflect on and document their own knowledge and experience in relation to future work life possibilities

Form of teaching
The course is based on lectures, workshops and seminars. Group and individual work are a part of the course.

Examination formats
The assessment is based on the following individual assignments:
- written exam (graded as Pass (G) or Fail (U), 5 credits)
- written course paper in the form of a literature review (graded as Pass with Distinction (VG), Pass (G) or Fail (U), 7 credits)
- digital portfolio (graded as Pass (G) or Fail (U), 3 credits)
If a student who has failed twice on the same examination component wishes to change examiner before the next examination, such a request must be granted unless there are special reasons (Chapter 6, Section 22 of the Higher Education Ordinance).
If a student has received notification of study support from the University of Gothenburg with a recommendation for adapted examination and/or adapted form of examination, the examiner may, if this is compatible with the intended learning outcomes of the course and provided that no unreasonable resources are required, decide to grant the student an adapted examination and/or an adapted form of examination.
If a course has been discontinued or undergone a major change, the student must be offered at least two examination opportunities, in addition to the regular examination. These opportunities are distributed over a period of at least one year, but no longer than two years after the course has been completed. The same applies to practical training and clinical placements, but with a limitation to only one additional examination occasion.
If a student has been notified that he/she meets the requirements for being a student at the Swedish Sports University (RIU student), the examiner has the right to decide on adaptation during examination, if this is done in accordance with Local rules regarding RIU students at the University of Gothenburg.
Grades
The grading scale comprises: Pass with Distinction (VG), Pass (G) and Fail (U). Three tasks are examined in the course. All these need to be completed in order to reach the grade Pass (G). The individual course paper is the foundation for the assessment for Pass with distinction (VG).

Course evaluation
After completion, the course will be evaluated anonymously by the students. A summary of the evaluation results together with any suggestions for improvement will be made available.

Net-based information and communication via The University of Gothenburg's learning platform is applied and a computer with internet access is a prerequisite during the course.
