On the Somali Language Situation for Mother Tongue Speakers
Summary
If Somali is your mother tongue and you are interested in languages, then this is a course for you. It is also well suited for teachers of Somali as a mother tongue.
About
This course has a focus on historical and lexical perspectives on language. Important topics are the relationship between Somali and other languages, variation within Somali, language policy and standardisation, word formation and terminology, important dictionaries, as well as electronic corpora.
The course has scheduled online classes.
Language of instruction:
In the autumn term 2025, the course is offered in English and in Swedish.
Please note that there is one application code for the English version and one application code for the Swedish version.
Required documents: Transcript proving completed upper secondary school education + proficiency in English + ID showing citizenship

Prerequisites and selection
Entry requirements
General entrance requirements for university studies. Exemption is given from English when the language of instruction is Swedish. Exemption is given from Swedish when the language of instruction is English.
Selection
Selection is based upon average grade from upper secondary school (34 %), the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits (33 %) and Högskoleprovet - Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test (33 %).
