Entry requirements

A Pass grade (G) is required on the following courses:

  • CCD11A, The Construction of Childhood, 22,5 credits
  • CCD21A, Play and Participation 22,5 credits
  • DSG12A, Design Studies, 7,5 credits
  • and at least 15 credits from the course CCD31A, Children and Society, 30 credits.

Content

In this course, the student completes a degree project in design related to Child Culture Design. The degree project consists of an independently formulated practical project within the subject of design with a focus on Child Culture Design and a compiled report (Thesis). The purpose of the course is to deepen the student's ability to independently investigate a subject matter in design with artistic methods and to express the results of the investigation in a creative work. The student develops their ability to critically discuss the relevance of questions, methods and results for the field of knowledge design. The student must critically justify and use reference material, formulate research questions and adequately communicate the results of their research project.

Objectives

On successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

Knowledge and understanding

  • argue for their own choices of artistic methods and research questions in design

Competence and skills

  • degree project in Child Culture Design containing both materializations and a written report (Thesis)
  • visualise the result from their own design process in a degree project

Judgement and approach

  • critically discuss and evaluate issues, methods and results in their own and others' artistic studies in the field of Child Culture Design.

Sustainability labelling

Form of teaching

Teaching takes place in the form of seminars, tutorials and lectures. The course also includes individual practical design work.

The language of instruction is English.

Examination formats

The learning outcomes will be examined through:

  • writing assignments
  • oral presentation of results and process of own project
  • completed design project
  • completed compiled thesis.

Submission of complements to a carried out examination assignment may be allowed.

Absence from examinations may, based on the teacher's assessment, be replaced by another form of examination.

If a student who has twice received a failing grade for the same examination component wishes to change examiner ahead of the next examination session, such a request should be made to the department in writing and should be approved by the department unless there are special reasons to the contrary (Chapter 6 Section 22 of the Higher Education Ordinance).

If a student has received a recommendation from the University of Gothenburg for study support for students with disabilities, the examiner may, where it is compatible with the learning outcomes of the course and provided that no unreasonable resources are required, decide to allow the student to sit an adjusted exam or alternative form of assessment.

In the event that a course has ceased or undergone major changes, students are to be guaranteed at least three examination sessions (including the ordinary examination session) over a period of at least one year, but no more than two years after the course has ceased/been changed. The same applies to internships and professional placements (VFU), although this is restricted to just one additional examination session.

Grades

The grading scale comprises: Pass (G) and Fail (U).

Course evaluation

Students are given the opportunity to evaluate the course anonymously at the end of thecourse. The results of and possible changes to the course will be shared with students who participated in the evaluation and students who are starting the course.

Other regulations

The student is responsible for any costs in connection with the implementation of the course.
