Gender and visual cultures
About
In this course, you will develop tools to understand and critically analyze the visual media landscape through the lens of gender and power. We explore key concepts from feminist film theory and media studies. You will examine how gender, sexuality, ethnicity, class, and age influence how people are represented—and what these representations mean in a broader social context. Together, we study how power is both reflected and challenged in contemporary film, art, photography, and media. Throughout the course, you will develop your ability to analyze various visual expressions and connect them to current debates on equality, representation, and diversity.
