Summary

You explore the intersection between English-language literature and continental philosophy, focusing on questions of truth, knowledge, and language, while developing your skills in critical literary analysis and philosophical reflection. The course is intended for students with a bachelor’s degree who wish to deepen their understanding of theory and literature at an advanced level, and it is taught and conducted in English.

About

In this course, you will have the opportunity to explore the intersection between English-language literature and continental philosophy, with particular attention to aesthetic questions concerning truth, knowledge, and language. You will analyze and discuss how philosophical ideas illuminate and deepen our understanding of contemporary literary works in the British, Irish, and American traditions — including poetry, prose, and drama.

Through seminars, you will engage actively in close readings, reflections, and critical discussions, developing your ability to integrate philosophical perspectives into literary analysis. Emphasis is placed on your capacity to analyze, evaluate, and critically examine your own and others’ arguments and investigations — both in writing and speech — from scientific, ethical, and societal perspectives.

NB: When the course is given as a distance course, it has scheduled online classes.
