Advanced non-fictional Chinese I
Summary
You learn to read, analyze, and translate texts in advanced Chinese non-fiction, discuss them in Chinese, and critically reflect on their content and language. The course is designed for students with advanced prior knowledge of Chinese who wish to develop their skills in text analysis and translation.
About
In this course, you deepen your ability to read and comprehend advanced Chinese non-fiction in the original language. You work with texts in linguistics, literary studies, philosophy, and other areas of the humanities, and through reading, analysis, and translation into Swedish, you develop both linguistic precision and subject-specific understanding.
Teaching takes the form of seminars and independent exercises in which you reflect orally and in writing on the content and linguistic form of the texts. You are also expected to discuss, in Chinese, a topic related to the texts studied and to summarize them both orally and in writing. You learn to critically engage with texts written in advanced Chinese non-fiction and to use them as a basis for your own interpretations and reflections. Assessment is based on written assignments and an oral examination.
For individual assignments, you should, when possible, select texts relevant to your independent project.
