Advanced research equipment at the Faculty of Science and Technology

The Faculty of Science and Technology has infrastructure and research facilities of high international standard. We also have a large number of advanced instruments in departments and research groups. Here is a list of instrumentation and equipment categorized by subject. Smaller to larger drones with Lidar, multispectral and thermal-IR sensors, as well as software and computer for data processing. RTK-GPS equipment.

GULD - The University of Gothenburg Laboratory for Dendrochronology

The University of Gothenburg Laboratory for Dendrochronology (GULD) is a fully equipped laboratory for tree ring research, including equipment such as the Skippy system for digitizing tree rings from cores and disks, LinTab tree ring measuring stages and core microtomes.

Ice- and Microplastic lab

Laboratory to

analyse microplastics from different sources and in combination with the Raman laboratory and,
to analyse frozen material, i.e. ice

~9m² large walkable freezer room (-18°C - 25°C) equipped with, automatic fabric analyser microscope (G60), Metabo bandsaw (BAS 318), Proxxon bandsaw (MBS 240E), Zeiss sledge microtome.

main analytical lab equiped with, 2x 400l freezer boxes (-30°C), 2x deformation press for cm-sized samples under simple and pure shear, 1x simple shear deformation press for dm-sized samples, OceanView light spectrometer (SR-6XR250-10) with UV to near IR light source (DH-2000FHS-DUV-TTL), microplastic sample pump from water bodies (KC Denmark, Model 23.565 - 750 W) with filter set (20µm-3mm), extraction and filtration setup for microplastic extraction from different material such as water, 3x ultrasonic measurment device with Exponential Transducers 54 KHZ (Pundit-200, Eagle Screen Technology), 1x Schmidt Hammer (Rockschmidt Typ N), 1x DJI Mavic Pro drone with smart controller (RGB camera)

ISOGOT Facility

The ISOGOT facility at the Department of Earth Sciences provides analytical capacity for the determination of stable isotopes in various media as well as elemental/nutrient analyses. We also provide greenhouse gas analysis.

Attohallen

Attohallen is a facility for interdisciplinary research and collaboration in the fields of optics, spectroscopy and lasers at the University of Gothenburg and stimulates integrated projects between different research groups at a local, national and international level. The facility focusses on light/matter interaction where it offers unique spectroscopy capabilities for static (non-linear) and femtosecond to attosecond time-resolved research not available anywhere else in the world.

BLS microscopy

The BLS microscopes, consist of two confocal microscopes that characterizes high frequency, 300 MHz to 2 THz response of the material (Solid state, Softmatter, bio), elastic, phonons, spinwaves through the Brillouin light scattering, the microscopes have time, phase resolution, resolution of diffraction limit of ~250 nm, and equipped with magnets and simultaneous electrical characterization.

Microgeochemistry

(Laser ablation) ICP-MS offers the quantification of trace element concentrations and isotope ratios for a wide variety of solid and liquid samples. Scanning electron microscopy allows high resolution imaging as well as quantification of major element concentrations of both inorganic and organic substances.

PDMS Microfluidic Fabrication Facility

The facility offers an air-locked, positively pressurized environment equipped with all the necessary tools for producing and evaluating custom-made masters, as well as for molding and fabricating polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microfluidic structures.

Sputtering facility

Dual Chambers-AJA thin films Sputtering Systems, DC and RF Sputtering (for metallic and insulating thin films) simultaneous sputtering of different materials up to 15 (Sputtering Guns), at ultra high vacuum with possibility of heating substrate heating up to 850 C, allowing to 0.5% uniformity over 4-inch wafer substates.
