Here you will find an overview of research infrastructures and other advanced equipment available within life science in the Gothenburg region. The aim is to make it easier for researchers to find and access equipment and expert competence in the region.
What is life science?
Life science encompasses a broad field of study. It can be defined as the science of all living things - how organisms function, interact with, and impact their environment.
The focus lies within biology, human biology, molecular science, nursing science, clinical and preclinical medical science, environmental science, health care, and biotechnology. Additionally, research in life science significantly intersects with areas such as technology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, material science, and pharmacy.
The Sahlgrenska Academy and the Faculty of Science and Technology, together with Region Västra Götaland, Sahlgrenska University Hospital and Chalmers University of Technology, run joint strategic initiatives within life science.

Research infrastructures are units with advanced equipment and staff with specialist expertise in their respective fields. They are generally open to all researchers.

Agreement template for the use of equipment
To facilitate collaboration, there is a joint collaboration agreement between Region Västra Götaland, Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg, as well as a template agreement regulating conditions for access, use and responsibilities.

Making advanced equipment available within life science
The University of Gothenburg, in collaboration with Region Västra Götaland, Sahlgrenska University Hospital and Chalmers University of Technology, is continuously carrying out a gradual inventory of advanced equipment within life science. The purpose is to:
- increase accessibility for more researchers
- strengthen collaboration between academia, healthcare and industry
- improve resource efficiency
- provide an updated overview of available resources
