Published

UGot ReWork was inaugurated at the University of Gothenburg with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, speeches and musical performances. The new research centre will conduct primary care–based interdisciplinary research on how people who have been on sick leave can receive better support for sustainable return to work.

UGot ReWork, a new interdisciplinary research centre focusing on sustainable return to work, was inaugurated on 19 February at the University of Gothenburg. The centre is based at the Institute of Medicine at the Sahlgrenska Academy and is one of two new welfare research centres established at the university with long-term funding from the Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare (Forte). The initiative is a ten year investment, with SEK 50 million allocated for the first six years.

The inauguration took place at the Health Sciences Centre (HVC) at the University of Gothenburg and formally marked the start of the centre’s activities. Jan Borén, Head of the Department of Medicine, performed the ribbon‑cutting ceremony to officially open UGot ReWork. The programme featured speeches from university representatives and the centre’s leadership, as well as musical performances by Chorus Acusticus and trumpeter Jan Anders Bjerger. The event concluded with a shared reception and was followed by a seminar for the centre’s collaboration partners, focusing on the research agenda and opportunities for future endeavors.

UGot ReWork conducts primary care–based research on how people who have been on sick leave (particularly due to mental ill health or musculoskeletal pain conditions) can receive better support in returning to work. The research is carried out in close collaboration between researchers from multiple disciplines and stakeholders in primary care, working life, public authorities and patient organisations. Professor Maria Åberg serves as the director of UGot Rework, and Associate Professor Elisabeth Björk Brämberg serves as Deputy Director. With its long-term perspective, the centre aims to generate new knowledge that strengthens both individuals’ opportunities for sustainable return to work and the development of welfare systems.
