She is joining JMG during the fall semester, with Professor Annika Bergström as her host. Yaiza holds a degree in Journalism and a master's degree in Research on Media, Audiences, and Professional Practices in Europe, from the University of Malaga.
During her stay at the University of Gothenburg, Yaiza Ceballos will focus on analyzing how young people use social media as a news source.
- For my research project, I'm interested in which strategies young people follow on social media, the sources they rely on, and whether there are differences depending on age, social class, or place of residence. I also aim to explore whether they are aware of the risks involved in social media, such as exposure to misinformation.
Interest and inspiration
Yaiza Ceballos’s interest in the University of Gothenburg began with her desire to gain international research experience.
- While searching for universities, I came across researchers whose work was closely related to mine, and I found Professor Annika Bergström’s profile particularly inspiring. In addition, I had always wanted to spend some time in the Nordic countries, so Gothenburg felt like the perfect destination, says Yaiza.
During her time here, she aims to strengthen the methodological approach of her thesis, which is mainly quantitative, through survey research and focus groups to explore what lies behind the numbers. She also expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and support she has received from both Annika Bergström and the research group which she has joined.
