Anne Sofie von Otter in an Open Masterclass with Opera Students
World-renowned mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter is inviting the public to attend an open masterclass with opera students at the Academy of Music and Drama. This visit is part of the Academy’s Artist in Residence programme and has been made possible thanks to the generous support of the Sten A Olsson Foundation.
Anne Sofie von Otter is one of Sweden’s most prominent opera singers, with an international career spanning four decades. She has collaborated with conductors such as Carlos Kleiber, Claudio Abbado and Giuseppe Sinopoli, as well as artists such as Elvis Costello, Brad Mehldau and Rufus Wainwright.
She has made a significant impression with her ever-changing repertoire, performing in roles such as Octavian in Richard Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier, Leonora in the world premiere of Thomas Adès’ The Exterminating Angel, Madame de Croissy in Francis Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites, and Charlotte Andergast in Sebastian Fagerlund’s Höstsonaten.
In spring 2025, she portrayed the role of Angelus Novus in Philippe Manoury’s Die letzten Tage der Menschheit at Oper Köln in Germany. She will next appear in Gothenburg on 1 November, performing in a concert featuring music by Arvo Pärt at Stora Teatern with Bengt Forsberg and the vocal ensemble Lux, among others. She will be on stage in Gothenburg once again at the end of January 2026, this time at the Concert Hall with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, conducted by principal guest conductor and violinist Pekka Kuusisto.
Anne Sofie von Otter is also one of the world’s most recorded artists. She has collaborated with Deutsche Grammophon for many years, during which time she has recorded several critically acclaimed albums. These include the Grammy-winning Des Knaben Wunderhorn by Gustav Mahler, as well as Ariodante, Giulio Cesare and Hercules by Georg Friedrich Handel. Her more genre-crossing projects include the album For the Stars with Elvis Costello.
