Exploring Gothenburg. Transforming public space with means of design and performance

Culture and languages

Welcome to this seminar with the research platform PLACE. This time, the theme is "Exploring Gothenburg: Transforming public space with means of design and performance".

7 May 2021
13:00 - 14:30
Online via Zoom

Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts

Presentation and conversation with Cecilia Lagerström, professor in performance practice at the Academy of Music and Drama and Elena Raviola, professor in design, HDK-Valand.

With Gothenburg as point of departure Raviola and Lagerström explore relations between the local and the global, which in turns transform the familiar experience of the city. With means of design, Raviola transforms the city for play by hacking and co-crafting urban interventions, while Lagerström follows traces of colonialism in the city by means of performance.

Jan Eckert, new Head of the Design Unit at HDK-Valand, takes part in the conversation with the researchers, moderated by Monica Sand, the faculty research adviser.

PLACE is a new cross-institutional platform at the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts. The initiative aims to consolidate existing research interests and act as an umbrella to pursue research partners and external research funding within the field of spatial practice/discourse.
