About Samantha Hookway
Samantha Hookway, MSc from HDK’s Business & Design program and MFA in Glass from The Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. She also studied sculpture at Kungliga Konsthögskolan from 2006-08 in Stockholm, Sweden.
Samantha’ s design and artistic practice is often collaborative and done by working in many interdisciplinary teams. Her interests lie in working with the practice of being a creative in an atmosphere that has forgotten how creativity is essential. And, she is especially driven by the power of the in-between, a window that is pregnant with design possibilities – whether this window is acting as a transition in our experiences or is a literal piece of glass that sits between two worlds. For example, one project is the collaborative project titled, Dear Home, which concentrates on lessening the burden for newcomers as they migrate from place to place. Dear Home has manifested itself in a few ways which included a workshop and a group of exhibitions/presentations in Berlin, Moscow, Kiev and Gothenburg during 2016-2017.
Currently, Samantha collaborates inside Studio Alight, a creative studio that works within the crossroads of art, design, law and technology. Using artistic methods, we seek to reframe, conceptualize and contextualize the seemingly unexplained, unvisited and most importantly the unmapped. Studio Alight’s work has manifested itself in a few ways which includes client work, workshops, commissions and exhibition pieces. On the research track, Samantha has also participated as researcher and service designer in the research project AGECAP, here at GU. And works with collaborators at Sahlgrenska School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship on creating educational experiences and research in the realm of Healthcare.
