About Pia Shekhter

I work at the Music and Drama Library, Gothenburg University Library. The principal aim of the library is to support the education and research at the Academy of Music and Drama in “Artisten”. The library is also open to other students and employees within the Gothenburg University and to the general public. Printed music may only be borrowed by students and employees of the Academy as well as alumni and students of musicology.

The library collections comprise around 600 linear metres of printed music, records and videos as well as literature and printed journals that are primarily about music and theatre. There is also a large collection of plays. The University Library provides access to many important online databases and electronic journals, such as RILM, Oxford music online (including Grove) and Music Online (several databases from Alexander Street Press).

I am the liaison librarian for music and drama. My main areas of responsibility are acquisition, interlibrary loans and giving support to the Faculty of Arts when it comes to electronic publishing in “GUP” (Gothenburg University Publications) and “GUPEA” (Gothenburg University Publications Electronic Archive). I also work with the service “Book a librarian”. In addition I am regularly on duty in the information/lending desk.

I have compiled one subject guide for music and one for theatre and dance, which are regularly updated. All suggestions are welcome!

I am the Secretary General of the International Association for Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres (IAML). The Association has around 1700 members in about 50 countries, ranging from the music departments of large libraries such as Library of Congress, the British Library and the Bibliothèque National to small public libraries around the world. IAML holds annual conferences. My colleagues and I had the pleasure of hosting the conference at Artisten in 2006. As a board member of the international association I am also ex officio a board member of the national Swedish IAML Branch.
