About Milla Marzelius

About Milla Marzelius

I am a PhD Student at the Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, since Autumn 2023.

My Phd project is connected to and funded through the interdisicplinary research project The importance of physical and socio-political factors for wind power deployment. The project is carried out together with Niklas Harring at the University of Gothenburg, Emma Pakkala and Simon Matti at Luleå University of Technology, and Carin Lundqvist and Fredrik Hedenus at Chalmers University. Beyond my doctoral education at the Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg, I am connected to the interdisciplinary Research School in Energy System (FoES), which is organized by Linköping University and funded by the Swedish Energy Agency.

I represent PhD Students at the PhD council of the Social Sciences Faculty and the GUDK board on university level. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out!

Research

In my dissertation, I study just transitions through the case of wind energy. Some topics that my articles touch upon are elite polarization of the energy debate, how compensation and inclusive processes work to mitigate attitudinal backlash effects of climate policy exposure, and whether politician's beliefs about voter behaviour align with electoral effects of local politicians stopping wind farms. I use a combination of quantitative methods, including survey experiments, difference-in-difference designs, and quantitative text analysis to study both causal and descriptive phenomenon.

Some recent presentation of my work took place at the European Political Science Association's Conferences (EPSA) in Madrid in June 2025, and at the International Behavioural Public Policy Conference (IBPPC) in London in September 2025.
