Ann-Marie Eriksson
SENIOR LECTURER
Department of Education, Communication andAbout Ann-Marie Eriksson
I received my PhD in 2014, and hold a position as Senior Lecturer with the Department of Education, Communication and Learning. I also hold an additional, administrative position as the Director of the Unit for Academic Language (ASK) at the University of Gothenburg. The unit specializes in academic writing and language devlopment and provides various forms of tuition in Swedish and English for both students and staff. While individuals' continuous development of writing and language is at the core of the Unit activities, we also help develop specialized, integrated language and writing interventions for courses and programmes.
Research interests My research interests concern institutionalized forms of text production, such as academic writing in higher education, and their functions in people's situated processes of knowing. Such processes are characterized by situations and prolonged events where people encounter and need to deal with knowledge that is new to them. I take a particular interest in what challenges text production involves for the social and discursive formation of disciplinary knowing and for perspective-taking in interdisciplinary settings. These interests are theoretically grounded in sociocultural traditions of learning and development, just as well as in dialogical theories of human communication and sense-making. I was an active member of The Linnaeus Centre for Research on Learning, Interaction and Mediated Communication in Contemporary Society (LinCS) and am now part of the research programme Learning and IT.
Teaching interests My teaching interests primarily concern writing pedagogy in higher education, textually based supervision, peer response and academic writing, and language pedagogy/didactics. At present, my main teaching responsibility is with Higher Education Diploma courses and pedagogical competence development for academic staff. My previous teaching background comprises technical communication and academic writing for STEM disciplines. Before then, I worked as a teacher of Swedish and English in upper secondary school / 6th form level and also in adult education.
