Presentation
I am a Ph. D. and senior lecturer in Political Science. I defended my thesis ”At the Command of God. On the Political Linkage of Islamist Parties” in 2004. I was previously employed at the School of Global Studies and the Centre for Middle Eastern Studies (CMES), Lund University.
After defending my thesis, I carried out a post-doc project at the Centre for European Research, at the University of Gothenburg (CERGU). The project resulted in the book "The European Union and its Mediterranean Neighbours" (2013, London: Routledge).
Areas of interest
My main research interest covers the EU’s democracy promotion in the Mediterranean and democratic processes in primarily Turkey and Jordan.
Current research
Presently, I am developing a research project on the EU's work against terrorism though democracy promotion in the Middle East. The project title is "The Double-Edged Sword of Democracy: Constructions of Democracy in the European Union's External Action against Terrorism in the Middle East".
Teaching and tutoring
I am primarily teaching on the teacher's programme and European studies. At the teacher's programme, I teach on different variants of the course "Steering, organisation and assessment" and in social science. At European studies, I teach primarily at the Master-level on different courses related to the EU as a global actor, but I am also involved at the undergraduate level. Further, I supervise and examine theses both on the teacher's programme and European studies.
