Entry requirements
Degree and main field of study
This programme leads to a Degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music with Specialisation in Classical Performance (Konstnärlig kandidatexamen i musik med inriktning klassisk).
Content
The programme, which is offered on an artistic foundation, builds on music and music traditions from various historical, social and cultural contexts that have their origin in Western classical music. It prepares students for a career as a professional musician in orchestras and ensembles and as a freelancer. The programme is clearly linked with the student’s future professional role. This is done through such things as collaboration with the surrounding community.
The programme is designed to provide a fundamental instrumental and chamber musical education in which the courses Main Subject Classical Music 1–6 and Chamber Music, Ensemble and Orchestra 1–6 make up a significant part. These courses also contain content such as scenic/musical communication and work with different audiences. Furthermore, the programme includes the Contextualisation 1–3 courses, which deal with music theory, ear training, music history and preparations for a future professional role.
In the Independent Project (Degree Project) Bachelor, students investigate an issue of their choice through musical expression. The course, which runs across two semesters, leads to a report in a relevant format in which the artistic process and investigation are highlighted, analysed and discussed. The course supports student learning about and in academic areas of expertise and links to research. This also occurs in an integrated and progressive way throughout the programme, but most specifically within the framework of the Independent Project course.
Regular feedback from teachers stimulates development and learning. Collaboration and joint studies with other programmes are included in several department courses and projects, including studies within ethics and social issues. In the sixth semester students choose an elective course within the range of courses offered by the department.
The programme comprises three years of full-time study (daytime), each worth 60 higher education credits. Studies on evenings and weekends can occur to a lesser extent.
