Exchange studies at the Academy of Music and Drama
As an exchange student at the Academy of Music and Drama you study together with our regular program students. If you are accepted as an exchange student, you will follow the courses within the program you have been accepted to (30 ECTS per semester).
All our programs are open for exchange students, but some programs require Scandinavian language skills, see information under Language requirements. You can apply for exchange studies either for an autumn semester, spring semester or for a full academic year at the Academy of Music and Drama.
We accept exchange student applications from all Erasmus+ program eligible institutions. We also accept exchange applications from institutions which have bilateral agreements with the Academy of Music and Drama or with the University of Gothenburg.
If you are interested in applying for an exchange and are studying at an institution that does not have an agreement with the Academy of Music and Drama, please email our International Administrative Officer at jenny.hedlund@hsm.gu.se.
Admittance is based on available study places for the chosen program and the level of your audition performance recording.

English is the official language of instruction for our bachelor’s programs in Improvisation Performance, Contemporary Traditions in Music, Classical Music and Opera, as well as for all of our master’s programs.
Exchange applicants are not required to submit proof of English proficiency, but they are expected to have a sufficient level of English to follow courses and participate actively in the education.
For our bachelor’s programs in Church Music and Choral Conducting, the official language of instruction is Swedish. However, most students, teachers, and staff speak English, and summaries of course content are usually provided in English. Therefore, students with good knowledge of English should be able to take part in the education without difficulty.
