About
During the course, you will explore walking as an artistic, embodied, and investigative practice. Drawing on perspectives and methods from the performing arts, we will examine how movement through landscapes, urban environments, and other sites can be used to generate knowledge, deepen perception, and develop artistic processes.
Through practical workshops, collective walks, reflective discussions, and theoretical perspectives, you will be introduced to a variety of walking strategies. The course presents key concepts and methods from the field, while also engaging with perspectives from both the performing arts and other areas of knowledge. Particular attention is given to the ways in which body, place, and environment shape one another, and to how walking can function as a method for perceiving, experiencing, and relating to a changing human and more-than-human world.
The course provides space for experimentation and critical reflection. You will have the opportunity to test, question, and further develop different approaches to walking, as well as formulate your own artistic practices and walking scores. The course is intended for those who wish to deepen their understanding of place, movement, perception, and relationality through an artistic and exploratory approach.
The course begins with an introductory session via Zoom on 15 March 2027. This is followed by an intensive weekend from 18 to 21 March 2027, running from Thursday lunchtime to Sunday lunchtime. During the remainder of the spring, there will be two additional online sessions.
Teaching is delivered through seminars, lectures, and practical workshops.

Through a range of walking strategies, you will learn to use spatial experience to examine the relationships between people, place, and environment. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to analyse, develop, and articulate your own methods, practices, and walking scores from both performance-based and interdisciplinary perspectives.
Prerequisites and selection
Selection
Selection is based on documented artistic skills (CV) and a personal letter motivating why you want to take the course, which should be enclosed to the application. The applicants will be ranked by the teacher's overall assessment of the applicants competence. The application is not complete without the above stated documentation
Facilities
The Academy of Music and Drama operates from five locations in Gothenburg: Eklandagatan 86, Fågelsången 1 (Konstnärliga), Åvägen 24 (Brewhouse), Vasagatan 50 (HDK-Valand) and Triörgatan 1 (Angered centrum).
