Postcolonial Texts and Theory
Summary
The course introduces key theoretical concepts such as the Other, hybridity, mimicry, and the third space, which you apply in close readings and critical discussions of postcolonial texts. It is designed for students with a solid background in English who wish to deepen their understanding of literary and cultural studies at an advanced level.
About
In this course, you study key works within the postcolonial sphere — reading texts that reflect the cultural, social, and political contexts of colonialism and postcolonialism, and relating them to current research and theory in the field.
Teaching takes the form of seminars where you engage in close reading, text analysis, and critical and systematic discussion of theoretical perspectives. You will develop your ability to explain how important ideas and theories have been treated within literary and cultural studies, to read and interpret complex texts, and to situate them within broader research and societal contexts.
NB: The course has scheduled online classes when given as a distance course
