Exploring entrepreneurship at the School
"When I encountered this Master's programme, it felt like a calling," says Michelle Hruska from Stockholm. She shares her experience in the MSc Knowledge-based Entrepreneurship (KBE) programme. Michelle reflects on her intentional choice, the courses that sparked her curiosity, the perfect mix of theory and practice, and the School's connections with the business community.
A personal journey to entrepreneurship
Michelle Hruska, a student from Stockholm, says: "I have always been interested in entrepreneurship and have been an entrepreneur all my life, from starting my own café at the age of 11 and selling freshly baked goods to neighbours to running my former company JA (Junior Achievement)"
Michelle explains her choice of programme: "When I found this Masters it was an obvious choice. It felt like an exciting Master's programme that would add a lot to the knowledge I already had, and the move to Gothenburg felt like a fun challenge."
Favourite courses and hopes for the future
Although Michelle has only completed two courses, she is looking forward to many more “I have just started a personal and professional development course which I am really excited about. I try to learn something new every day and believe that you are never really finished learning.”
She also mentions a previous course “We did a course on entrepreneurship and business development where we had to write a business plan for a fictional business idea. My group put a lot of effort into it and learnt a lot, and we are probably going to start the company for real”
A balance of theory and practice
Michelle describes the programme as a perfect mix: "I would describe the KBE programme as the perfect mix of theory and practice. The courses include many exercises and group work where you are expected to apply the theory you have learnt".
She emphasises the importance of theory in entrepreneurship “By incorporating that theory into practical exercises, I think you come up with 'better' ideas. For example, it gives you the tools to innovate more effectively, to be a better leader and to adapt yourself and your business better to the context”
Strong links with the business community
The contact with the business community has exceeded Michelle's expectations “The KBE students have been invited to several exciting events, such as one at Volvo. Companies and business leaders have also given guest lectures, which is much appreciated and fun”
She highlights the networking opportunities “Networking is an important part of entrepreneurship and I think we have good opportunities to do that.”
Tips for future students
Michelle encourages future students to get involved: "Take a look at the courses on the programme, do you get excited when you read about them? Then the programme is for you! I encourage prospective students to attend as many lectures, events and workshops as possible”.
She concludes with some advice "The more you get involved and participate, the more you will get out of your studies and the programme. Your classmates could be your potential co-founders or other important players in your network - take advantage of this opportunity!”
