Apply for MFA Improvisation and World Music
This information concerns the Master Programme in Music, with specialisation in Improvisation or World Music. The application process for studies starting in the autumn 2024 is closed and admission is in process. Next time you can apply is Dec 2024 – Jan 2025.
Your application procedure
The following applies to admissions for studies starting in the autumn term 2024:

- Complete your eligibility no later than 1 February 2024. More information on general requirements for master's level studies.
- Pay your application fee no later than 1 February 2024. If you are exempt from paying the application fee, you must prove your exemption status by the same date. More information on universityadmissions.se.
- Interview: February 25th, 2024

Portfolio
You submit your work samples via SlideRoom. You create a new account in SlideRoom yourself with your e-mail address and password of your choice.
All applicants are requested to send in:
- Proposal for an independent masters project is required, 4000–5000 characters long, including title of project, problem statement, method for artistic process, and references to related projects.
- A live recorded video presentation of your music and yourself as a musician. The video shall contain 15–20 minutes of music.
Interview
After reading and listening to the material you have submitted, we invite a limited amount of selected applicants to participate in an interview which will take place during calendar week 9 (26 February–1 March. This interview will be conducted via Zoom or other digital medium and is mandatory for all selected applicants.
Requirements for video recordings
Submit your work samples via SlideRoom. Create a new account in SlideRoom yourself with your e-mail address and a password of your choice.
Read the instructions for the programme you want to apply for carefully and make sure you know which pieces/samples you need to record and upload.
- Start your videos by introducing yourself and what you are going to perform. For the videos to be considered valid, your face and hands must be visible at all times.
- The video must contain 15–20 minutes of music. Perform one or more samples per film. The total running time of your videos must not exceed 20 minutes (unless otherwise specified in the trial information).
- The sound must be of good quality without too much room acoustics and without distortion and noise.
- The films must have high image quality with good sharpness and light. The recordings must be uploaded in the following permitted file formats: MP4 or MOV. Other file formats are not allowed.
- If the instructions are not followed and the video files are found to have been modified in any way, your submitted work samples may be deemed invalid.
Eligibility and selection
Entry requirements
Bachelor degree of arts in music or equivalent, and musical knowledge and skills that are assessed at the admission test and are the basis for selection. Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 6/English B from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.
Selection
Selection of eligible applicants is based upon assessments of submitted portfolios and proposals.
Tuition fees
Students with citizenship in countries not within the EU/EEA, or Switzerland, are required to pay application and tuition fees for university studies in Sweden.
