Motivation:

"Jenny Birkestad, researcher in media, communication, and informatics, has for many years been a national leader in the digitalization of the public sector. Her previous roles include being a director at the Swedish Agency for Public Management with a special responsibility for modernization and chairing the state's e-forum, responsible for digitalization in the City of Solna, head of digitalization at the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR), as well as an expert in the Government's Digitalization Commission and a member of the government's digitalization council. Now, Jenny is the head of business area at Adda – a company within SALAR where she, among other things, is responsible for learning and competence development within the digitalization of welfare. Since the 1990s, she has continuously worked to strengthen the knowledge base and speed of digital transformation within the public sector.

Jenny Birkestad has significantly contributed to the emergence of digitalization as a strong research environment at the Department of Applied Information Technology. She has added networks, thereby enabling the department to establish a channel to important forums for active collaboration between the department's research and the practices of municipalities and regions. Jenny's active involvement has, among other things, contributed to the establishment of the Research Consortium for Digital Governance; a research school for public digitalization as well as commissioned research and methods for measuring maturity in the public sector; collaboration activities, guest lectures, and other activities.

Jenny will continue to be an important collaboration partner for the Department of Applied IT and further contribute to the department's development in the field of digitalization and the public sector.”

Professor Terry Regier is appointed honorary doctor at the IT Faculty

Motivation:
"Terry Regier is one of the world’s leading cognitive scientists and a professor of Linguistics and Cognitive Science at the University of California, Berkeley. He is known for his research on language acquisition, categorization, and semantics, particularly on the relationship between language and thought. Regier's work involves using experimental and computational methods to understand how humans categorize objects and concepts, and how they use language to communicate these categorizations. He has published numerous articles and books, including The Human Semantic Potential: Spatial Language and Constrained Connectionism (1996).

Beginning in around 2018, his research has directly inspired and led to collaborations with researchers in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), leading to a series of publications presented at CogSci, the Annual Meeting of the Cognitive Science Society.  The research initiated with him lies at the boundary of AI and Cognitive Science and has laid the foundations for a new research direction at CSE in neuro-symbolic AI initiated by Moa Johansson and Devdatt Dubhashi. This research has recently attracted funding from VR and WASP, with plans for collaboration and exchange visits with Terry Regier."

Kristina Höök, professor of interaction design at the Royal Institute of Technology, KTH, got her insignia as a honorary doctor at the IT Faculty, University of Gothenburg, for the year 2022.

Professor Kristina Höök at KTH is an internationally recognized researcher who has received many national and international grants and awards. She is known for her work with social navigation and more recently for having developed important knowledge in design theory, including by starting from the body in design work. Kristina's work in putting Sweden on the map in human-computer interaction strengthens University of Gothenburg's development in the field.
