Short description

This project investigates whether proton beam therapy provides better patient-reported outcomes and is more cost-effective than modern photon radiotherapy for patients with rectal and anal cancer.

This project is conducted as a prospective cohort study. The study population comprises two cohorts: the PBT cohort, consisting of patients receiving proton beam therapy, and the CRT cohort, consisting of patients receiving modern photon radiotherapy.

Generic outcome measures, such as general health status, will be analysed across all cancer diagnoses, while diagnosis-specific analyses will also be performed. In addition, data from diagnosis-specific quality registries will be used for socioeconomic analyses.
