MPORT: Exploring and Improving Cross-cultural Interviews
Short description
The aim of this project is to understand the challenges of cross-cultural interviews and to develop strategies for legal practitioners that can improve communication with individuals from a different cultural background different than their own.
The purpose of this project is to increase knowledge about the challenges that may arise in cross-cultural interviews and to develop strategies that can improve communication within the justice system.
Many professionals within the justice system experience difficulties in obtaining important information during interviews with individuals from cultural backgrounds different from their own. In some cases, interpreters are used, which can make communication even more complex.
The challenges in cross-cultural interviews may vary depending on the situation and context and can have several underlying causes. The project will therefore first analyze real interrogations to examine the characteristics of cross-cultural interrogations. Experimental and other empirical studies will then be conducted to increase knowledge about how such interviews can be carried out in a way that promotes clear communication and enables the collection of relevant and reliable information.
