Hello, Yogeshwar! Tell us a bit about your history with our department.
YNM: My association with the Department of Physics at the University of Gothenburg began during my master’s thesis, which I conducted here in the fields of microfluidics and optical trapping. This period was pivotal in shaping my scientific career and sparked my long-term interest in experimental optics. I also worked at the department as a researcher funded by the Swedish Research Council. Over the years, I have maintained strong academic ties through collaborations, research visits, and continued engagement with faculty and students, making the department feel like a second academic home. I am deeply grateful to Prof. Dag Hanstorp for his mentorship, guidance, and enduring support, which have played a significant role in my professional development.
What will this arrangement as a visiting professor entail?
YNM: As a guest professor, I will be involved in teaching and academic mentoring, particularly in areas related to light-matter interaction, biomedical optics, energy, and ultrafast phenomena. I also look forward to engaging with ongoing research activities, interacting with students and researchers, and exploring opportunities for collaborative projects between the University of Gothenburg and my home institution, IIT Jodhpur.
What do you most look forward to?
YNM: What excites me most is the opportunity to reconnect with the vibrant academic environment of the department and to work closely with students. Teaching in an international setting, exchanging ideas with colleagues, and contributing to joint research initiatives are aspects I value greatly. It is also personally meaningful to return to a place that has played such an important role in shaping my scientific journey.
