In response to the serious act of violence at Campus Risbergska in Örebro, the University of Gothenburg is flying its flags at half-mast today, Wednesday, 5 February.
“This is a horrific and shocking act of violence, and today, I want to extend our thoughts to those affected. It happened in an educational environment not unlike our own, and the scale of this tragedy is difficult to comprehend. In Sweden, we have open educational spaces, from preschools to universities, and it is understandable that this event raises concerns among us,” says Vice-Chancellor Malin Broberg.
“The discussion about ongoing deadly violence is, unfortunately, not new to us at the university, and there are recommendations on how to act in such situations. But today, let us focus on taking care of one another and creating space for conversation,” says Vice-Chancellor Malin Broberg.
On Wednesday, the government and parliament are flying flags at half-mast, as are the royal palaces, other universities and colleges, government agencies, and municipalities. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has called for broad participation in the mourning flag tribute, and this morning, the University of Gothenburg also lowered its flags to half-mast.
