One of the two lecture halls in the new building. It is designed for active learning, with tables integrated into the tiered seating and space for groups of four to six. This makes it easy for students to move between small-group discussion and whole-class teaching by swivelling to face the front.
Work on the School of Business, Economics and Law’s new building has reached an important milestone: the structural frame is complete and the building is now weatherproof. The next phase is now under way – including the façade, windows and interior works – and the future environment for students and staff is becoming increasingly clear.

After many years of planning and construction, we are looking forward to moving into the new premises. With modern lecture halls and purpose-designed learning environments, we can enhance the quality of our education and provide students with more and better study spaces. The building will also create new opportunities for meetings, conferences and collaboration with business and society,” says Måns Söderbom, Dean of the School
More study spaces and opportunities to connect
When the building is completed in summer 2027, it will create new opportunities for both students and staff. The School will gain a modern learning environment with flexible facilities and new lecture halls that strengthen teaching and benefit the wider University of Gothenburg. For students, the new building will provide a long-awaited increase in both the number and quality of study spaces, designed to support different ways of studying.
The School is a natural meeting place for academia, business and society. The new building will improve the conditions for collaboration through events, meetings, conferences and joint activities with partners outside the University.
The building will also make it possible to bring all of the School together at one address, creating better conditions for collaboration across disciplines and contributing to a stronger sense of community.
A more accessible School
The building will also incorporate an entrance to the Västlänken Haga Station. This will make journeys to and from the University smoother and simplify commuting for both students and staff. At the same time, the School’s and the University’s presence in the city will be strengthened.

Facts about the new building
The public areas of the building will include study spaces, two large lecture halls, a café, student services and a new main entrance. The upper floors will house offices for parts of the School’s operations. In total, the building will comprise 10,800 square metres across eight floors above ground.
The School of Business, Economics and Law will take possession of the building in summer 2027. Teaching will be delivered in the new building from the start of the autumn term.
