The Artistic Faculty seeks three Assistant Professors in Design, Fine Art, and Musical Performance and Interpretation
The Artistic Faculty is recruiting internationally accomplished researchers for three Assistant Professor positions. The positions offer opportunities to develop research within internationally oriented research environments and to contribute to both research and education.
The recruitments are part of the University of Gothenburg’s Gothenburg Global Scholars Initiative, a university-wide initiative to attract internationally accomplished researchers and strengthen research environments across a broad range of academic fields. A total of 25 Assistant Professor positions are being announced across the University.
The Artistic Faculty
The University of Gothenburg is home to Scandinavia’s largest faculty of fine, applied and performing arts. Its research and education span a broad range of artistic fields, including design, fine art, film, photography, crafts, literature, music and performing arts, creating opportunities for exchange across disciplines and artistic practices.

Design, specialized in Business and Design
The Assistant Professor in Design will be affiliated with the Business and Design Lab (BDL), an interdisciplinary research centre bringing together the Artistic Faculty and the School of Business, Economics and Law. BDL combines design studies with management and organization studies to critically explore the relationships between design and art, technology and the economy. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to the centre’s continued development while becoming part of the faculty’s broader research environment, where artistic and design practices engage with environmental, societal and cultural challenges.
Fine Art
The Assistant Professor in Fine Art will be affiliated with the Centre for Art and the Political Imaginary (CAPIm), a joint initiative between the Artistic Faculty at the University of Gothenburg and the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. CAPIm is Sweden’s first Centre of Excellence in Artistic Research and brings together interdisciplinary research and artistic practice at the intersection of contemporary art and the future of politics. Its work explores areas including climate, democracy, historical memory and technological change, providing a strong environment for experimental approaches and for connecting research, artistic practice and education.
Musical Performance and Interpretation
We welcome applicants whose main artistic and research practice is rooted in improvisation, composition, or the intersection between the two. The Assistant Professor in Musical Performance and Interpretation will work in an environment where improvisational, compositional and technology-based practices meet in artistic research and education. The faculty has an established research and doctoral environment encompassing improvisation, composition, interpretation, sound and media, with collaborations across artistic fields and academic disciplines. It is also home to the Lindblad Studio, an experimental environment for sound, media, music technology, and computer-assisted composition.
