Sahlgrenska Life – Where the Future Meets History

The Museum of Medical History was present in the courtyard, screening historical films documenting the extensive construction projects of the 1930s. This period was explored through the two collaborative research projects Filmens Göteborg and Mediated Medicine, both of which formed part of GPS400’s research activities. The projects enabled the digitisation of the museum’s film collection and resulted, among other things, in the publications Filmens Göteborg and The Fifth Sahlgrenska as a Medical Media System.

At the symposium, Lisa Sputnes Mouwitz, Director of the Museum of Medical History, was one of the speakers. Her presentation, entitled Sahlgrenska – Where the Future Meets History, focused on the history of the hospital site. Central to the presentation was the period of expansion from 1933 to 1959, known as the Fifth Sahlgrenska. Research conducted within Filmens Göteborg and Mediated Medicine has contributed to a greater understanding of the development of healthcare in Gothenburg and has made this knowledge accessible through publications and public presentations.
