Professor McKelvey appointed board member of SACC-Texas
Maureen McKelvey has been appointed board member of the Dallas chapter of the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce Texas (SACC-Texas). SACC-Texas is one of 20 Swedish-American Chambers of Commerce in the USA, dedicated to facilitating and increasing business between Texas and Sweden.
Maureen McKelvey is Director of the Centre on knowledge-intensive innovation ecosystems (Gothenburg U-GOT KIES) at the University of Gothenburg, and she was chosen for the board thanks to her unique background, as she was born and raised in Texas, and has lived and worked in Sweden for many years.
Gothenburg U-GOT KIES centre is currently working on a project related to diffusing knowledge through digitalisation and through interaction with society. As part of this project, Maureen McKelvey, together with Helene Honeybone, Honorary Consulate of Sweden, Dallas, has developed the Nordic Texas Initiative. Specific activities that have been established include agreements with University of Texas Dallas (UTD); company visits; panels with leading experts; and Delegations between the countries. These activities are part of the reason why Maureen McKelvey was invited to join the Board of SACC Dallas, where she is actively contributing to the chamber's mission.
The SACC Dallas board
The primary role of the board in SACC Dallas is to establish a foundation for networking with the aim of fostering business relations between Sweden and the USA. Practically, this involves organizing events where these connections can be made, including social and cultural events, webinars, physical events with speakers addressing current topics, company visits, and more.
A recent example of such an event was a webinar featuring Nobel laureate Simon Johnson, which attracted around 200 participants from both Sweden and the USA. This event was jointly organized by SACC Dallas and Gothenburg U-GOT KIES. The webinar was recorded and you ca watch it here: Technology and Global Inequality in the Age of AI: Webinar with 2024 Nobel Laureate Simon Johnson
