Dr Thorne is a Professor in nursing and associate dean of applied science at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. She is an academic nursing leader with a program of research in the fields of chronic illness and health care communication and in the application of qualitative methods to the expression of a nursing epistemological perspective on solving problems and translating knowledge into practice. She has contributed extensively to the theoretical development of nursing, published over 150 original articles and book chapters and received several honorary recognitions.
