Developing connections internationally in innovation and entrepreneurship adds value to our research and advanced education, as well as collaboration with society. Gothenburg U-GOT KIES has chosen to focus on Texas for 2024-2026, and an upcoming event is the Texas Delegation to Sweden on 14th – 18th September 2025.
The Nordic Texas Initiative
The Nordic Texas Initiative refers to events, panels and visits that are jointly organized by Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce (SACC) Texas, Honorary Consulate of Sweden Dallas, and our Gothenburg U-GOT KIES centre. The activities also enrich education at the University of Gothenburg, through lectures and visits, especially for master’s students in Knowledge-based Entrepreneurship.
Texas Delegation to Sweden: 14th – 18th September 2025
The Delegation members will be visiting key organizations in the Gothenburg area – with a certain focus on life sciences like AstraZeneca and the role of universities like Innovationskontoret. Members of the Delegation range from entrepreneurs, business leaders, economic development corporations, and professors. The visit comprises many activities in West Sweden, visit to AstraZeneca, GoCo, AstaZero, as well as panel discussions. Each activity makes connections with relevant members of our Gothenburg knowledge-intensive innovation ecosystem. International professors from Denmark, France, Iceland, and Norway, who are affiliated with Gothenburg U-GOT KIES, will strengthen the Nordic angle during the visit.
Why match Texas and Sweden to better understand innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystems?
The economy of Texas corresponds to the 8th largest economy in the world; Texas hosts the presence of many Swedish and Nordic companies, for example, Ericsson’s USA Headquarters; Texas is rapidly developing renewable energies, now at 25% of the electricity grid; and Texas provides a very dynamic environment in many areas of medicine-life sciences, advanced technologies and entrepreneurship. Texas offers opportunities for scale and speed, often at later stages of technology and business, whereas Sweden offers much support for earlier stage ideas as well as a strong engineering-technology foci within business.
