Published

Incoming Vice-Chancellor Malin Broberg can now present the new management for the University of Gothenburg. The Pro-Vice-Chancellor will be Carina Mallard and the assignments as Deputy Vice-Chancellors go to Pauli Kortteinen, Mette Sandoff and Max Petzold. With the current Vice-Chancellor’s decision this week to appoint Johan Johansson as University Director, the management is now complete.

Now the entire new university management is in place and we can start getting to know each other and chart the way forward. We have an exciting autumn ahead of us after the summer holidays”, says Malin Broberg.

It was at Wednesday’s meeting that the University Board made the final decision to appoint Carina Mallard, Professor of Physiology, as Pro-Vice-Chancellor. Since 2021, she has been Deputy Vice-Chancellor responsible for issues regarding research, an area of responsibility she takes with her into the job as Pro-Vice-Chancellor.

Two new Deputy Vice-Chancellor and one that remains

Malin Broberg will appoint three Deputy Vice-Chancellors.

I have chosen to formulate Deputy Vice-Chancellor portfolios that match the strategic challenges that I see ahead for the University of Gothenburg in the coming years, and have been looking for suitable people for these assignments.”

One of them is Pauli Kortteinen, Senior Lecturer in Linguistics, who continues with the assignment as Deputy Vice-Chancellor responsible for issues regarding education. The new Deputy Vice-Chancellors will be Mette Sandoff, Professor in Public Administration, and Max Petzold, Professor in Health Science Statistics. Mette Sandoff, who is currently acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor, will become Deputy Vice-Chancellor responsible for issues regarding campus development and internationalisation. Max Petzold has been appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor responsible for issues regarding digitalisation and utilisation.

As for the recruitment of University Director, it was completed this week when the current Vice-Chancellor, Eva Wiberg, made her decision. The choice was Johan Johansson, who is currently acting University Director.

”It feels very good that we made the decision to appoint a new University Director before the summer. It was a strong group of candidates, and the recruitment committee has been in complete agreement throughout the process and we are very pleased that Johan Johansson will now become the University of Gothenburg’s University Director”, says Eva Wiberg.

”A strong group with broad competence”

Malin Broberg emphasises that she is very satisfied with the various experiences in the management group. Three out of five have previous experience in university management and two, including herself, are new, something she hopes will guarantee both stability and gentle renewal.

”All in all, it’s a strong Vice-Chancellor group with broad competence and great commitment to the entire University of Gothenburg. I look forward to us getting started and together tackling current and future challenges with a clear strategic direction over the next six years”, she says.
