New book tackles Autism in complex presentations

Published

Professor Christopher Gillberg's latest book now published.

A groundbreaking new resource, Autism in Complex Presentations: A Guide to Assessment and Diagnosis, has just been published. Edited by Professor Christopher Gillberg, Dr Elaine Clark, and Abigail Mance, the book brings together an international team of clinicians and researchers to address one of the most challenging areas in neurodevelopmental care—recognising and assessing autism when it occurs alongside other conditions.

Autism can present in diverse ways, particularly when combined with additional neurodevelopmental or medical challenges such as demand avoidance, selective mutism, ADHD, language disorders, developmental coordination disorder, tic disorders, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, “rare disorders”, and vision and/or hearing impairment. This volume provides evidence-based guidance to help professionals navigate these complexities with clarity and confidence.

The book is designed for practitioners across paediatrics, psychiatry, psychology, neuropsychology, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, and education. It offers practical tools and clinical insights to support accurate recognition and diagnosis of autism in a wide range of settings.

Professor Christopher Gillberg, one of the world’s leading authorities on neurodevelopmental disorders, said the book aims to “equip professionals with the knowledge and strategies they need to identify autism even in the most complex clinical circumstances, ensuring children and adults receive the support they deserve.”

With contributions from leading experts worldwide, Autism in Complex Presentations is set to become an essential reference for clinicians, researchers, and educators alike.

The book is available now through major academic and professional publishers.
