GGBC Granted New Three-Year Operational Period

Published

We are pleased to announce that the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Gothenburg has granted Gothenburg Global Biodiversity Centre (GGBC) a renewed mandate to continue operations for another three-year period (from 1 January 2026 through 31 December 2028).

The Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences will remain the host department for GGBC.

"It’s truly exciting that GGBC has been granted a renewed mandate for another three-year period. Biodiversity loss is one of the major societal challenges we face, and tackling it requires both science-based knowledge and strong collaboration. That’s why GGBC plays such a vital role—as both a collaborative platform and a knowledge hub,"

says Jenny Klingberg, Director of Gothenburg Global Biodiversity Centre

We are excited and proud to continue building bridges across disciplines and organisations in support of biodiversity research, policy, and action—locally and globally and look forward to continuing our mission to promote collaboration, research, and knowledge-sharing in support of global biodiversity,”

says Kate Evans, coordinator of Gothenburg Global Biodiversity Centre

More about GGBC

GGBC is a collaboration hub with the aim to promote and stimulate collaboration and knowledge development on biodiversity, ecosystem services and nature’s contribution to people, to strengthen society’s ability and capacity to transition to a future where people live in harmony with nature.

The Gothenburg Global Biodiversity Centre (GGBC) was established by the Faculty Board in 2016 with an initial three-year operational period and is hosted by the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Gothenburg. The Centre is built on a collaboration between eighteen partners from around Western Sweden, all of whom work with biodiversity in different capacities.
