Fröst & Brahms: Martin Fröst returns to guide students ahead of joint concerts

Published

We are delighted to welcome clarinettist and conductor Martin Fröst back to the Academy of Music and Drama as part of our Artist in Residence program, sponsored by Stenastiftelsen. From 8 to 12 March, he will work closely with the academy's classical music students to prepare for two orchestral concerts.

Fröst will lead the work as both conductor and soloist, providing students with a unique opportunity to collaborate with a world-renowned artist of the highest calibre. The week's activities will culminate in the Fröst & Brahms concerts on 11 and 12 March. The clarinet class will also have the chance to deepen their studies through a masterclass with Fröst.

The concert program features pieces closely associated with Fröst's artistic profile, including 'Nomadic Dances' (Göran Fröst and Martin Fröst) and 'Anniversary Dances' (Johannes Brahms and Martin Fröst). The music reflects Fröst’s artistic expression and his curiosity for cross-genre sound worlds.

The residency began on 7 November 2025 with a large seminar for students and will conclude with a final visit during the 2026/27 academic year.

About Martin Fröst

Martin Fröst is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading instrumental soloists. The first wind player to be appointed Artist in Residence with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam for the 2022/23 season, he has performed with renowned orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic.

He has built a wide-ranging repertoire of more than 20 recorded albums, with a particular focus on contemporary music and specially composed works for clarinet. In autumn 2025, Fröst released his latest album, B.A.C.H. His artistry is also characterised by boundary-crossing multimedia projects combining music with choreography and lighting design.

Martin Fröst's upcoming engagements include performances with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra and violinist Vilde Frang in Örebro and Stockholm, and at the Halle aux Grains in Toulouse with the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, conducted by Fuad Ibrahimov.
