European Researcher’ Night Comes Alive in Gothenburg!

Published

This annual event was celebrated on the evening of 25 September, when Gothenburg Global Biodiversity Centre and their partner Gothenburg Natural History Museum hosted this year’s European Researchers’ Night. The theme? “The Soil Under Our Feet.”

Six inspiring local scientists—Helena Wiklund, Paul Drenning, Jenny Norrman, Ted von Proschwitz, Jenny Klingberg and Emily Stragepede—shared their passions, from the abyssal mud plains of the deep ocean to the shells we uncover on our beaches, the snail life in our gardens, and the hidden geology and risks of soil contamination. Five teams from the public had the chance to quiz the researchers directly, uncovering the wonders beneath our feet.

The fun didn’t stop there! Teams tackled questions previously set by the scientists themselves, competing for beautiful prizes. Yet, the real wins went beyond trophies: a young student rediscovered a love for science, new friendships were formed, and attendees of all ages—from children to retirees—shared in a night full of laughter, learning, and community spirit.

A perfect reminder that science isn’t just in labs—it’s everywhere, and it’s for everyone.

European Researchers' Night in Sweden

Universities, science centres, museums, archives, research centres, municipalities, science parks and regional development councils across the whole of Sweden organise European Researchers’ Night in Sweden. The event is coordinated by the Swedish nonprofit organisation Vetenskap & Allmänhet, (Public & Science Sweden).
