CeMEB Award for Contributions to Marine Evolution

The CeMEB Award recognizes outstanding contributions to marine evolution by early career researchers within our community. The award consists of a cash prize, or equivalent support to be used at the recipient’s discretion, and will be presented at the upcoming CeMEB Assembly.

We strongly encourage members to put forward deserving colleagues. Self nominations are equally welcome. By explicitly encouraging both, we aim to ensure that the opportunity to be considered does not depend on visibility, networks, or senior advocacy, and that all members have a chance to be recognized.

Eligibility

Nominees must be:

  • A CeMEB member
  • Current PhD students, or
  • Within seven years of obtaining their PhD at the time of nomination

Career breaks may be taken into consideration where relevant.

Scope of the Award

The award is not limited to publication metrics or impact factors. While scientific publications may form part of the motivation, the primary focus is on the nominee’s overall contribution to marine evolution.

Contributions may include, but are not limited to:

  • Innovative research projects or discoveries
  • Development of novel methods, tools, or technologies
  • Leadership or key roles in collaborative initiatives
  • Organization of scientific events or community building efforts
  • Outreach, popular science, and science communication
  • Contributions that strengthen inclusivity, collaboration, or visibility in marine evolution

We welcome nominations that highlight meaningful impact, creativity, leadership, and engagement in advancing marine evolutionary research and its community.

Nomination Instructions

To nominate a candidate, please fill in this form.

Please provide:

  • Name and affiliation of the nominee
  • Current position and year of PhD completion, or confirmation of current PhD status
  • A short motivation, maximum half an A4 page, describing the nominee’s contribution and its significance

The motivation should clearly explain what the nominee has achieved and why this contribution is valuable for marine evolution and the CeMEB community.
