Award for book on culinary heritage
At the award ceremony for Swedish Meal Literature of the Year 2023 at the Royal Academy of Forestry and Agriculture in Stockholm, the book Matarvets trådar: från antik fisksås till svenskt fredagsmys was awarded the prize for best “Historical meal literature” by Måltidsakademien.
The justification reads: "How is food knowledge conveyed? Well, it's not just through grandmothers and grandfathers. This well-learned anthology shows the complicated paths that guided our culinary impulses until todays “fredagsmys”, the outdoor grill and the return of the turnip.”
Jenny Högström Berntson, you are one of the editors of the anthology Matarvets trådar, how does it feel to receive an award for the book?
- It feels fantastic and very honouring. Food heritage is close to my heart, and it has been lovely to work with this anthology, and to be able to capture so much different knowledge about food and cultural heritage.
Do you have plans for another book on foodways?
- Well, it is not at all impossible. We have a fairly large network called #matarv (food and heritage) where we collaborate on research and collections about food, traditions and cultural heritage. We have so far published two anthologies about food and cultural heritage, and also produce the podcast, Matarvspodden, where culinary heritage is the common thread.
