How many people are affected by asthma? What are the different types of asthma and how do they differ from each other? These are some of the questions our researchers are currently working on.
Our research at the Krefting Research Centre is driven by the desire to improve the health, treatment and well-being of people with asthma. We now know that asthma is more than just one disease – it has several different underlying causes.
Our researchers study the different types of asthma with the goal of understanding their differences in order to find better treatments. We also have experience working with large-scale population-based studies, such as the West Sweden Asthma Study (WSAS), an epidemiological survey of over 30 000 individuals.
Important findings in our research
- Growing up on a farm protects you against runny nose throughout the lifespan, regardless of where you live later in life.
- MicroRNA regulates ILC2 function.
- Exosomes contain RNA and act as messengers between cells.

New research shows that people with “T2-low asthma” get insufficient help from current treatment and that half of all asthma patients may belong to this group.
