Speakers

Asad Basheer Sayeed, Associate Professor in computational linguistics at the Department of Philosophy, Linguistics, and Theory of Science, University of Gothenburg: Will talk about the GRIPES project and research on political dogwhistling. A dogwhistle works only if some of the population "gets it" and fails if everyone understands it well enough to act on it. Current GRIPES work involves innovative research into methods of identifying dogwhistles in political discourse using a combination of social science methods, linguistics, and AI and natural language processing techniques.  The ultimate goal is to role of automated methods in political discourse.

Fredrik Svahn, Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Information Technology, University of Gothenburg: Will talk about Computation Methods (CM) that offering opportunities for research by providing new ways to study human behavior and bridge the gap between qualitative and quantitative research. With quantitative methods typically providing limited explanatory power and qualitative methods being weak on prediction, CM offer an opportunity for researchers to overcome these limitations. Furthermore, will present findings from a study on digital competence resourcing at Volvo Cars.
