David Crookall is a distinguished scholar in the field of simulation and gaming, with a long career spanning research, teaching, and community-building. His publications cover areas such as simulation design, facilitation, and debriefing, as well as communication processes in simulated settings. Across this work, he has contributed to establishing simulation and gaming as a field of academic inquiry. In addition to his publications, he has been actively involved in organizing conferences and providing platforms for research dissemination within the international simulation and gaming community. He has been closely involved in the International Simulation and Gaming Association, where he has taken on leadership roles and contributed to sustaining an international network of researchers and practitioners working with simulation and gaming. Crookall is also widely known for his editorial work with the journal Simulation & Gaming, where he served as editor-in-chief for many years. In this role, he has been central in curating and shaping a large body of research on simulations, games, and role-play across domains such as education, management, and training.
